Faith -Devotional

Colossians 2:6-7 “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith . . . abounding therein.”

Paul teaches us a great lesson here; it is not just by faith that we first came to Jesus and are united to Him, but it is by faith that we are to be rooted and established in our union with Jesus. Faith is as essential for the progress of your spiritual life as it was in the beginning. Abiding in Jesus can only be by faith.

Many Christians are zealous for a free Gospel, we accept Jesus and we are justified by faith, but they think that after this everything depends on our diligence and faithfulness. They believe Romans 3:28 that we are ‘justified by faith’ but they seem to have issues with Romans 1:17 “the just shall live by faith.” Do not misunderstand that Jesus is the perfect Savior and each day he will do just as much for you as He did that very first day that you came to Him. The life of grace is always and only a life of faith, and in relationship to Jesus the one daily and never ending duty of the believer is to believe, because believing is the channel through which divine grace and strength flows into your heart.

If you want to know how much faith is to be exercised in abiding in Jesus, to be rooted deeply and firmly in Him, you only have to look back to when you first got saved. When you put every doubt aside and simply said “If You want me, here I am and I have nothing to offer You. I believe that You want to save me and that You will save me and forgive me.” Simply by the word of God you came and He accepted you and saved you.

It is the same when it comes to abiding in Jesus. As you came to Jesus, so abide in Him, by faith.

”As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus, so walk ye in Him: rooted . . . in Him, and stablished in the faith . . . abounding therein.”
