The Living Water

The Living Water

Luke 24:5-6 ‘And as they were afraid, and bowed down [their] faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

Imagine how the disciples were feeling that morning as they started on their journey. Their hearts were sad and troubled because they thought Jesus was dead. They did not know He was alive. This is the way it is with many Christians these days. They look to the cross and they struggle to trust Jesus, but they have not learned the blessedness of believing that there is a living Jesus who will do everything for them. The words that the angel spoke to the women that came to the tomb on the morning of the resurrection were striking: Luke 24:5 “Why seek ye the living among the dead?” The difference between a dead Jesus and a living Savior is that you have to do everything for one that is dead, but a living Jesus does everything for us.

The disciples started with a sad heart. It is possible that they did not sleep any that night. What a terrible disappointment they had experienced. They had hoped that Jesus would be the Deliverer of Israel, but they saw Him die a horrible death. Their sadness could not be expressed. Again, the life of many Christians is much the same. They try to believe in Jesus and trust Him and hope in Him, but they have no joy; because they do not know that there is a living Jesus that can be revealed to them.
