Luke 24:25 “. . . . slow of heart to believe.”
The second stage is from the words Jesus spoke to the disciples when he told them that they “were slow of heart to believe.” They heard the message from the women, and they told the Stranger that walked with them: (Luke 15:22-23) “Certain women of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; and when they found not his body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.”
And Jesus replied to them in verse 25 “O fools, and slow of heart to believe.” There are many Christians today that have heard the Gospel and who know that they must not only believe in a crucified Jesus but in a living Jesus, and they try to grasp it and take it in, but it does not bring them a blessing. Why? Because they want to feel it and not believe it. They want to work for it and receive it through their own efforts, instead of just quietly humbling themselves and believing that Jesus, the living Jesus will do everything for them.
The first stage is a stage of ignorance, and the second is a stage of unbelief. The doubting heart cannot take in the wonderful truth that Jesus lives.
