His Life/Your Life #2

His Life/Your Life #2

Colossians 2:15 “When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities (those supernatural forces of evil operating against us), He made a public example of them, having triumphed over them through the cross.”

Believers are not called on to defeat the enemy! Of course, we know that the enemy is Satan, listen, we are not called on to defeat Satan, God has already done that in Christ! It is not our mandate to “bind” Satan. Jesus was already set limits on the extent and the duration of Satan’s freedom. Satan, our ‘ancient foe’ was completely, once and for all defeated by Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross and in His resurrection, we are assured that Satan has already been defeated! In regard to Satan, our assignment is to trust in the victory that Jesus has already won and resist the devil daily with the truth of his defeat, like Jesus did.

According to John 8:44, Satan is the father of all lies and he is a master deceiver. If he can convince you that God has not defeated him, then you will not experience the truth of Jesus’s victory. You will find yourself fighting battles that Jesus has already won. You will fear Satan even though he has already been totally defeated and humiliated. Our responsibility is to resist the devil and he will flee from you according to James 4:7. When you resist Satan, you are acknowledging the fact that Jesus defeated him and given us victory over his influence. God has provided us with spiritual armor that is way more than enough to withstand any assault by Satan (Eph. 6:10-20).

Christians can get preoccupied with battling Satan and that is what he wants to do. Because then he gets you using your time and energy attempting to do what Jesus has already done for you! If Satan can divert you to fight a battle that has already been won, then he has eliminated your effectiveness where God wants you. Fearing Satan is fearing a prisoner of war! You have no need, you have no calling to defeat Satan, all you need to do is apply Jesus’s victory in every area of your life. Your calling is to live the victorious Christian life! As you go about sharing the love of Jesus with others, and his crew face the reality of their defeat every time a soul is claimed by the kingdom of God (Luke 10:17-20)!
