Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
The relationship that the Bible tells us we can have with the Lord Jesus is that we can be so accustomed and attuned to His voice that we will recognize Him regardless of all other messages that are competing for our attention. John 10:27 “My sheep know My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” Jeremiah 7:23 says “Obey My voice and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.” What this is saying, is that if we believe in Jesus as our Savior, then we will recognize His call and we will have the capacity to know the One that saves us. We will be able to walk in the paths He has for our lives and experience the best He has to offer.
Can you identify the Master’s voice? When He speaks to you, do you realize that it is His voice? Are you motivated to follow when He summons you? Listening to God is absolutely essential if you want to walk with him and understand the specific plans He has for your life. That is why it is so important for you to learn to hear the father’s voice. Once you do, you can engage in the ultimate conversation and have an intimate relationship with Him. It is very important that we understand that God is constantly teaching us, patiently demonstrating His love and wisdom to us through every detail of our lives. Our challenge is to expect Him to reveal Himself with an open and wiling heart, regardless of what we are facing, and then to intentionally apply what He says. Please think carefully about this truth and be of this mind set: The Lord has something to say to me, and I am not going to miss it! Regardless of the circumstances we experience, we know that God is teaching us something and we will intentionally and eagerly learn and apply whatever it is.
The best place you can begin to learn God’s voice is through His Word. Psalm 119: 105 says “Your word is a lamp to me feet and a light to my path.” The Bible contains the Lord’s plans and principles for living. It is the written record of His unfolding revelation throughout history, of His ways, His character, and His nature. We have all been in situations where we hear someone speaking but we cannot see their faces. As we listen, we know exactly who it is because we recognize their voice. This is what Scripture does for us; it makes us familiar with what God says and how He communicates it to us. It trains us to hear His voice. If you really want to know how to listen to the Father’s voice, study His word! The Bible is a wonderful guidebook that teaches you the ways and the character of the Lord Jesus Christ. You learn who he is and how much he loves you (John1:1; 14). Then the Bible is helpful because you know the Father will never instruct you to do anything that goes against His Word. If you believe He is telling you something, you can always go back to the Bible and get confirmation or more instructions (Psalm 119:11-12). Then God’s Word calms our worries. It is amazing how reading the Lord’s redemptive and loving activity can give you hope and confidence. Through the Scriptures He counteracts any wrong opinion that we might have of Him and it reinforces the fact that He is completely trustworthy (Rom. 15:4).
The Scriptures assure you of the Lord’s presence, His power, and His provision in your life; the promises you need most to have confidence in him. It reminds you of who it is that you are trusting and counting on; the Lord God Almighty, your heavenly Father!
He “goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deut. 31:8).
He “is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
He says “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Is. 41:10)
He has “loved you with an everlasting love” and “has drawn you with loving-kindness.” (Jer. 31:3)
He “is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, he will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” (Zeph.3:17)
God’s Word reveals things in your life that are keeping you from hearing the father’s voice. As you study the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit works on you and increases discomfort in areas of your life that you are withholding from him. His goal is for you to find freedom from any bondage that remains in your life (Heb. 4:12). The Bible teaches you how to think as the Father thinks and helps you to see your circumstances from His perspective. Nothing in your life is an accident, there is no such thing as luck or chance. We have the assurance in Romans 8:28 “that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love god, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
