Proverbs 3:5-6 “. . . Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.”
The good news is that the God who helped Moses and who has delivered His people all through history is available to you today. This is how you can be certain of His character, His attributes, and His love for you: He has not changed and He never will. Because we know He is eternal and He is consistent, we can answer some of the questions that come up when we talk about having a conversation with Him:
Can I really trust God? Does He really have the ability to help me? Is God sincerely willing to listen to me and come to my aid?
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” You can count on God because of His steadfast holiness and integrity (Num.23:19; Ps. 22:3-4). People out here will disappoint you. The Father will always do what is good, what is loving, and He will always be righteous on your behalf because He is holy and He always does the right thing. Hebrews 6:18 promises “It is impossible for God to lie.” When the Father says that He cares for you, it is not a trick; it the absolute truth. He will never lead you astray, He will always be honorable and He will always guide you in the best possible way.
The value of any promise is not based just on the character of the person making the guarantee but also on His capacity to fulfill it. God has never failed to keep His word. In 1 Kings 8:56 Solomon proclaimed “Blessed be the Lord . . . not one word has failed of all His good promise.” He is absolutely capable of fulfilling your needs, no matter how overwhelming they may seem. This is because our God is sovereign; He is the majestic Ruler of all creation. He set the laws of nature in place. Matter, time, and space are in His hand and under His authority. Psalm 103:19 says “The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all.” What this means for your situation is that the Father is omnipotent, He is all powerful. He can literally move heaven and earth to accomplish His will for you because he put them in place and He guides their every movement according to Psalm 104.
Our Lord is also omniscient, which means that He knows everything, He is all knowing and completely wise. He sees your past, your present, and your future. He understands everything about your situation, even details that you could not possibly know. He identifies exactly what you need and how to provide it, He also knows how to use your difficulties best to build you up and mature your faith (Rom. 8:28). God is also omnipresent. He is outside of time and everywhere at once, so He is always with you in every moment, no matter where you go (Josh. 1:9). Nothing in your life escapes His notice. He is able to rally resources and influence circumstances that you do not even know exist in order to solve the problems you are facing, regardless of what they are. Luke 1:37 says “Nothing will be impossible with God.” No matter how deep, how piercing, how mighty, how complicated, or how overwhelming the trials you face, your living Lord is greater and can and will lead you to victory in them (John 16:33). Yes, the Father is able to help you!
The question that so many of us struggle to answer is: Is the Lord really willing to listen to me and come to my aid? We might accept the fact that God is trustworthy and capable of delivering us from our troubles, we are not so certain that He is willing to do so. This comes mostly because we feel inadequate, we doubt that we are worthy of His love and His presence. We need to understand the Lord accepts us based on Jesus’ death on the cross, not what we have done or not done (Eph. 2:8-9). Then we need to understand that as well as being omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, He is also omnibenevolent, which means He is unconditional and perfect in His love for you. His love is not based on what you do.
