Luke 22:39 “And He came out and went, as was His habit, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed Him. “
We have been looking at the characteristics of Jesus’ prayer life and especially His determination to seek the Father’s heart and will. Some of the other characteristics of His prayer life make us want to understand and apply these same things in our prayer life. We have already talked about how Jesus was in the habit of going to pray early in the morning. We never sense that Jesus ever thought that these regular times of prayer were getting old or that He needed a change,. But we do sense that these prayer times were His lifeline.
Here is nothing routine about meeting and talking with God. To know that you will be meeting with the Creator of the universe who has the words of life as well as daily guidance for you is a source of joy and strength and hope. A regular time of prayer, especially in the morning hours, prepares your heart and makes you sensitive to the ways and things of God. It prepares you for what you will face in the day. God knows what you day holds and He will instruct you face any situation. The God that created the universe, that created you, and who orchestrates your day is more capable of preparing you for anything you if you will spend the necessary time with Him.
The Scriptures He brings to our minds during our time of prayer and Bible Study in the mornings, the people and the concerns that He puts on our hearts, will directly apply to the events of the coming day. Throughout the day, each event, each conversation, and each person will in some way be connected with what the Lord spoke to us while we were in prayer.
In our lives these days, we are prone to put everything over and above having a habit of prayer. What does your routine reveal about the importance of prayer in your life?
